We are looking for a Trainee Colourist to join our Design team, and ultimately to work within our bulk colouration team.
The main responsibilities of the role are to use CAD software to match colours to customer specifications and originate creative colourways for customers or for open line designs.
The role will also include:
– research & forecasting colour trends using forecast books, websites & other media
– learning to colour match designs on cloth to a variety of artwork
– creation of new colourways using colour trend boards or customer briefs
– ensuring samples are printed on appropriate base cloths
– correctly scanning in artwork, layouts & working repeats using CAD software
– meeting set deadlines for samples & artwork.
As a Trainee Colourist you will be a team player with the ability, personality & professionalism to communicate with all levels of personnel & customers. You must be able to work with a high degree of detail, be self-motivated and take pride in your work. A keen eye for colour and attention to detail is essential. A sound knowledge of CAD, including Photoshop, would be an advantage, as would previous experience in creating and using colour set pallets.
No specific qualifications are required, however the appointment will be subject to passing an initial assessment with Blackburn College. Training leading to a Level 3 Diploma in Textile Design & Manufacture or Level 3 NVQ in Manufacturing Textile Products will be undertaken with Blackburn College.
Successful completion of the training & qualification will lead to progression into digital bulk colouration. Initially hours of work will be from 8.30am to 5.00pm. Following completion of training you will be required to work 40 hours per week on a shift system. This is a permanent position. You must meet the legal requirements to apply for this job.
